Mission Statement:
Our mission is to act as an advocate for seniors; to empower older adults by providing information, emotional support, social opportunities, nutrition and transportation to maintain an independent lifestyle within the community.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Our foremost goal is to offer an additional support system in which a senior feels a sense of belonging and can grow through choices which enhance the joy of living as he/she adapts to the continuum of life changes.
Program History:
The Hanover Township Senior Center was dedicated on April 2, 2005. It is a visible symbol of the support that this community has for its elders. A senior tax referendum, "Support Our Seniors," was passed in November 2002 thanks to our seniors whose dedication and hard work incited its passage. This referendum allowed for the construction nd maintenance of a new senior center. Opperman Architects, Inc. and contractor, Lamp, Inc. worked along with our Supervisor, Clerk, Board of Trustees and staff to achieve a dream that benefits all adults, age 55 and over, who live in Hanover Township.
The Senior Services Department offers a wide variety of advantages to the seniors who live in our Township. We offer transportation, recreational programs and trips, social service as well as many opportunities for volunteerism.
Additional Information:
We have a variety of volunteer activities that can be done both at the senior center and off site! In the past we have coordinated with schools to do yard work for homebound seniors, car washes, intergenerational learning workshops, serving meals, etc. We are always looking for new ways to bridge the gap between seniors and students. Several those involved with the center are involved with reading and math tutor programs. If you are interested in setting up a volunteer activity please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 630-483-5667 or by emailing spowers@hanover-township.org.
The Senior Center is located north of the Hanover Township Building at 240 South Illinois Route 59 in Bartlett. Our Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Saturday 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. We invite you to drop in or call 630.483.5600.
