"To provide Community Service; Volunteer Training Systems; and Assistance to Community Based Organizations".
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
The philosophy of the Harmonious Volunteer Center is neighbor helping neighbor through an organization method of positive community development to implement a healthy community concept for the improvement of the quality of life for those who are less fortunate.
Program History:
The Harmonious Volunteer Center established January, 1998 focuses on five major areas: Project Companionships addressing the concerns of our aging and elderly population; Project Youth addressing positive youth development; Project Literacy addressing the diversity within our society; Project Awareness which is our communication vehicle for internal and external communications; and Project Support which addresses our ability to be self reliant and self sufficient with sustainability. These projects are augmented and supported by the implementation of approximately 28 various programs which are administrated by our dedicated volunteers.
Events:
The Harmonious Volunteer Center participates in a wide assortment of events annually either by providing assistance or sponsoring events. Scheduled for 2010 are the following: January - Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service; Resident's Coalition Annual Soul Bowl Football Tournament; February- Tribute to Black History Month; Valentine's Day of Love; April- Showtime at Chalmers Park; May- Showtime at Chalmers Park; June- Showtime at Chalmers Park; July - HVC Pavilion at Resident's Coalition Annual Anti Bondage Day Festival, Van R. Thomas Memorial Basketball Tournament; August- Community Unity Day at Chalmers Park; September- Recognition and Awards Festival at Chalmers Park along with other major and minor events at various location within the City of Philadelphia.
Additional Information:
The Harmonious Volunteer Center is represented by the people it serves and over the past 13 years has succeeded in developing relationships, organizing neighborhoods, building coalitions, developing multi entity partnerships. These years of development has placed the Harmonious Volunteer Center into a unique catagory of being a conduit to serve the needs of people in various targeted groups. Many nonprofit organizations have been and continue to be recipients of the generousity of the Harmonious Volunteer Center who also has served as fiscal managers for several un-incorporated nonprofits. All of the programs developed and implemented by the Harmonious Volunteer Center are replicatable and our volunteers log thousands of hours of in-kind services. Our logo represents the mighty oak tree entrenched in mother earth's grassroots that maintains the ability to meet the challenges and to spread like seeds of success to other organization either in existence or will become similar.
