Program History:

The Volunteer Support Program started in the Manhattan office of Long Term Home Health Care (LTHHC) in 2005 to mainly serve clients in Manhattan. This year 2009 the program spread to all sub-division of Community Services (Manhattan & the Bronx).

Events:

Annually volunteers are recognized for their services in the May. Ongoing monthly in-services workshops around topics of aging (ie, depression, elder abuse, anxiety) are offered to all volunteers.

We are looking for caring people who can spend a few hours each week making someone’s life better.
 
Visit an senior at home,the adult day centers or NORCS (naturally occurring retirement) and enrich their lives through conversation, reading, playing chess or cards, or simply taking walks with them.
 
You can help them with small errands, visit with a trained dog or join our workshops on learning how to train seniors to use their home computers. 
 
Volunteers are supported by a professional team of social workers and nurses and are invited to participate in our series of monthly seminars on the health care system, social policy issues and geriatrics.
