Mission Statement:
Khadarlis for Sierra Leone is a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities in Rural villages in Sierra Leone.
Program History:
Khadarlis for Sierra Leone started when co-founders Aisha Desince and Dee Johnson met online and decided to work towards creating change in Sierra Leone. The two women knew that there was a need for clean drinking water, sustainable housing, and clean electricity. Khadarlis for Sierra Leone generates revenue in their Providence store to fund the projects in Sierra Leone. Currently the organization is building wells, homes, and installing solar panels to make life easier in the rural villages of Sierra Leone.
Events:
Khadarlis for Sierra Leone is very excited to offer the opportunity to schools in the Providence area to build a relationship with students in Sierra Leone. In the country of Sierra Leone the literacy rate is about thirty five percent, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. This program gives Providence schoolchildren penpals in Sierra Leone to correspond with each other. The classroom and students sponsor their penpals by sending basic school supplies to Sierra Leone because these schools lack these basic necessities. Khadarlis for Sierra Leone is looking for classrooms who would be interested in sponsoring and corresponding with students in Sierra Leone schools. The program teaches Providence students about another culture and the students of Sierra Leone increase their literacy and learn about life in America.
Another program Khadarlis for Sierra Leone has going on this summer is open hours at our store located at 99 Academy Avenue in Providence. Khadarlis for Sierra Leone is offering use of computers Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm. Anyone can come in and use the computers to do research, look for jobs, or do homework. Khadarlis for Sierra Leone is a very welcoming atmosphere and we would love to have you come in and use our computers!
