Program History:
The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy seeks volunteers and college interns to work in our offices (The Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine Street) in a very fast-paced, creative, and friendly environment.
Additional Information:
The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy seeks volunteers and college interns to work in our offices (The Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine Street) in a very fast-paced, creative, and friendly environment. Individual must be available 3 days/week (any days), for at least 3 hours (between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.). The weekly schedule can vary, but must always meet the minimum number of days and hours.
Some Responsibilities Include:
- Answering multiple phone lines, providing callers with needed information, and documenting the call.
- Performing a variety clerical and data entry duties.
- Conducting online research and monitoring trends in adult education, distance, learning and technology.
- Helping to monitor the organization’s social media interactions, and write blog entries.
- Attending and representing the organization at community events.
Requirements:
- Comfortable speaking on the phone with caring, considerate and articulate phone manners.
- Must be a quick learner, able to adapt to various projects, detail-oriented, assertive (problem-solving skills a plus).
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and follow direction.
- Excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong familiarity with – and interest in – blogs, online networking and new media.
