Mission Statement:

The Medicare Rights Center is a national, nonprofit consumer service organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs and public policy initiatives.

Since 1989, we’ve been helping people with Medicare understand their rights and benefits, navigate the Medicare system and secure the quality care they deserve. We’re the largest and most reliable independent source of Medicare information and assistance in the United States.

Roles & Responsibilities:
-The Hotline Counselor assists people with their health care issues over the phone. Through one-on-one counseling and informal advocacy; Hotline Counselors support the independence of people to make choices that affect their health and financial well-being.

-You will provide individual counseling to people with Medicare issues, inform them of their rights, and screen them for eligibility for programs to help with the costs of Medicare.

-Volunteers are expected to make a commitment to one hotline shift a week (4 hours), for a minimum of six months. However, we are flexible

Schedule

Hotline shifts are Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. One evening shift is available Wednesdays from 6-8pm.

Requirements

-Prior knowledge of Medicare is not required.
-Basic computer knowledge is required.
-Volunteers are required to attend initial training sessions.
-Volunteers are also required to attend a monthly update meeting.
