Mission Statement:
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency working to find treatments and cures for 43 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medic al and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Muscular Dystrophy Association's summer camp program is designed to provide a normal camp experience for children ages 6 to 17 diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease, and to encourage independence, self-assurance and confidence.
Program History:
The Association was started in 1950 by a group of concerned parents whose children were affected by neuromuscular diseases. Over 50 years later, MDA is the leader in muscle disorder research and provides a broad range of services to our families. Services include assistance with the maintenance of durable medical equipment, a loaner closet of equipment, MDA clinic visits at CHOA @ Scottish Rite and Emory University. Other services include support groups, physical therapy, occupational therapy, flue shots, vital research, a weelong summer camp program, and much more.

Additional Information:
Volunteers are needed to be counselors to children ages 6 to 17 who will be attending camp this summer. Camp dates are Saturday, July 9 through Friday, July 15. Counselors are assigned to be a buddy to a camper and assist them with whatever daily needs they have. This can include dressing, showering, transfers to and from wheelchairs, toileting, helping them with activities, etc. Applicants will need to fill out an application that includes a background check and a physical.
