Native Village Publications
Additional Information
Causes Served: Native American and multicultural education
Population Served: K-12 schools, colleges and universities, Native American, International Indigenous
Mission Statement:
Native Village was created to help build bridges among the past, the present, and the future in a peaceable, honest way. In the Americas, European invaders have been exterminating Native Peoples and their cultures for over 500 years. It's time to stop the destruction and begin the healing. Education is the key.
Program History:
Native Village is an award winning educational publication focusing on Native American and indigenous cultures. We began in 2000 as a simple news and scholarship listing publication. Since then, we added libraries with thousands of links and pages and include publications from other friends including Messages to Youth from Leonard Peltier and Inupiaq culture from Mary Sage in Barrow, Alaska.
Native Village is honored to host the Internet Youth Forum for The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. We are also involved in their movie, "For the Next Seven Generations." More can be learned at www.forthenext7generations.com
Our work has led to assisting on national and internation projects for the Smithsonian and PBS, among others. We belong to several organizations including Native Web, the National Association for Multicultural Education, the Native American Journalists Association, and The National Center for Great Lakes Education. We also promote selected projects and organizations including Zaagkii Wings and Seeds Project, Rabbit and Bear Paws Graphic Novels, Catching the Dream Scholarship Program.
Native Village owes its life to the selfless generosity of friends, Internet news sources, and listserves whose research and contributions make this publication possible. The breath of all creates winds of knowledge.
Additional Information:
NATIVE VILLAGE Publications and website was created for youth, educators, families, and friends who wish to celebrate the rich, diverse cultures of The Americas' First Peoples. Each month this award-winning resource offers readers two publications: Native Village Youth and Education News, and Native Village Opportunities and Websites. Each issue summarizes today's happenings in Indian country and is written in an easy-to-read format. Native Village also houses additional resources and information to enrich all lives on Turtle Island. Please enjoy your visit; you are always welcome here!
