Mission Statement:

Soaringwords’ mission is to lessen the impact of serious illness by connecting ill children and their families to a community of compassionate and caring volunteers who inspire them to “Never give up!” Soaringwords embraces these children and their families by providing fun, creative and educational activities, both in person and online, which cultivate joy, hope, laughter and healing.

Program History:

Founded in 2000 by Lisa Honig Buksbaum after three experiences with death and illness in her family, Soaringwords has reached more than 250,000 children and adults in company volunteer programs, schools in 30 states and 66 hospitals nationwide.

Additional Information:

Hospital Outreach Programs: Soaringwords programs are implemented in workshops, pediatric lounges, pediatric clinics and individual patient rooms. The programs have been shared in 66 hospitals nationwide.

Educational Outreach Programs: Participants in schools, universities, youth programs and community centers, corporate affinity groups and others create Soaringwords stories, art, poetry and other projects that can be given to hospitalized kids.  The program also provides best practices training for administrators and educators to help the school community when a classmate or other child is diagnosed with a serious illness or dies.

Soaringwords Youth Leaders: Ill kids and healthy kids become leaders with weekly, monthly, or quarterly projects that are being shared at YMCAs, JCCs and Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the country.

Resource Center www.soaringwords.org: Enhanced website contains 500 pages of “best of the best” in mind-body wellness expertise and a wealth of videos and activities that patients, their families and volunteers can enjoy.
