Benedictine Women of Madison is an ecumenical monastic community inspired by the Gospel and the Rule of Benedict. We welcome people of diverse views and cultures at Holy Wisdom Monastery.
Program History:
The Volunteer in Community Program was begun in 2006 as a way to provide a setting where single women could experience community, become familiar with Benedictine values, reflect on the meaning and purpose of life and work outdoors caring for the land in such activities as prairie maintenance, trail upkeep and gardening. Since then a total of twenty-six women have participated in the program living at the monastery for two to nine weeks over the course of the summer.

Participants live at the monastery and participate in the prayer, meal and work schedule of the sisters community. Room and meals are provided. Participants must provide their own health insurance. Four hours a day, Monday through Friday, are spent working outside on the monastery grounds maintaining the prairie, orchards, trails and vegetable gardens. Discussion sessions are held three afternoons a week on topics related to Benedictine spirituality and the participants' faith journeys.
