Mission Statement:
To rescue, represent, aid and assist as many cats as possible and to find them safe, loving, permanent homes.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Our philosopy is that the cats in the Trenton Animal Shelter need and deserve permanent homes, and we work hard to find such homes for them as quickly as possible. We believe in educating the public as to the safe co-existence with cats, their care and needs. Our strength is in the follow-up system we have for our adopters, serving as a consistent and permanent support system for all adoptive homes.
Program History:
We started displaying cats directly for the Trenton Animal Shelter 10 years ago. Since then, we have grown to over 100 volunteers, foster homes, and supporters. We display the cats at PetSmart Langhorne every week, doing same-day adoptions, and plan to continue indefinitely to work closely and exclusively with the Trenton Animal Shelter to help them find permanent adoptive homes for their cats.
Events:
Adoption Days, every Sunday at PetSmart in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, from 12 noon to 4 pm.
Additional Information:
We always need volunteers! At PetSmart we need people to help unload the cats from the carriers into the cages that are set up, post biographies of the cats on the cages, and give the cats love, attention, and encouragement in what can be a stressful situation for them. PetSmart volunteers also serve as public ambassadors, talking to customers who are interested in adopting and providing them with information that might help them choose to adopt.
With some experience, PetSmart volunteers can become Administrators. An Administrator performs pre-screening of potential adopters, and completes and finalizes the adoption papers and process.
We also always need foster homes. Providing a foster home for a cat is much like providing a foster home for a child. You are a temporary caretaker, providing food, lodging, love and care. Foster homes are needed for kittens, adolescents, and mature cats. Fostering cats eases crowding at the shelter, and helps socialize animals. It also helps us figure out what kind of adoptive home might be best for an animal. If you have the room, fostering can be very rewarding, and very helpful way of volunteering.
At the shelter, volunteers are need to give love, attention, and food and water to the cats as well as clean the cages. Basic cat care is often required, such as cleaning ears, clipping nails, and combing, as well as giving flea treatments. And, of course, there is laundry and dishes to be done.
Even the smallest help is appreciated! Sometimes we just need people who can photocopy documents, post cats on CraigsList, or provide other, simple help. Please don't hesitate to volunteer because you cannot come to the Shelter or to PetSmart.
