Program Information:
The STARS Mentoring Program is a peer mentoring program that began in 1996 by FRIENDS FIRST as a way to help provide support, character and healthy relationship education to youth. STARS stands for Students Teaching About Relationship and Success.
STARS trains student mentors to provide peer support to younger youth (ages 11-15) during school or in after school programs. Youth participants learn from their mentors and the STARS Curriculum the importance of goal setting, self-control, how to identify and maintain healthy relationships, effective communication skills, self-determination, and refusal skills. Students are equipped with the support and knowledge to make healthy choices and avoid risk behaviors including drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sexual activity, and violence.
