Membership Details:

The roots of the Inglewood Public Library stretch back to the early 1900s, when a group of women started the Inglewood Library Society in an attempt to establish a free public library in the city, which incorporated in 1908. They arranged through the Women’s Club for space for their project in a building owned by the Inglewood Water Company, staffing the library with volunteers at first. In 1913, Anna Clarke was hired as the city’s first paid librarian. Over the decades many transformations and relocations occurred with the final groundbreaking for the four-story, $3.1 million library structure at Manchester Boulevard and Grevillea Avenue on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1971. It would be the first of the civic center structures to be completed. The landmark 74,500-square-foot structure at 101 W. Manchester borders the garden-like Grevillea Mall, and is linked to other structures by pedestrian bridges and walkways. It includes a separate auditorium/meeting room that was renamed the Gladys Waddingham Lecture Hall in 1994. The Inglewood Public Library is a member of the Southern California Library Cooperative (SCLC), a consortium of 39 independent city, county and special district public libraries located in Los Angeles and Ventura counties which have agreed to cooperate in providing library service to the residents of all participating jurisdictions.
