Mission Statement:

ACES mission is to close the academic achievement gap of at-risk inner-city students in grades four through eight.

Program History:

ACES BEGAN IN 1994, when co-founders Rajiv R. Shah, M.D. and Rhoda Au, Ph.D. designed the ACES after-school tutoring/mentoring program based on 14 educational and psychological principles. Both realized the importance of having a proven rationale for ACES’ methods of educational enhancement.

Events:

ACES has many events throughout the year with our students, volunteers and ACES supporters. These events include service-learning opportuniites such as "Feed My Starving Children" and the Powderhorn "Empty Bowls" event, as well as various fundraising events throughout the year.

Additional Information:

Tutor/Mentors will be positive role-models in an after-school tutoring/mentoring program for inner-city youth. Tutor/Mentors will take an active role in improving the academic progress of inner-city students by working directly with youth (one-on-one, or in small groups) and assisting ACES staff in the facilitation of standards-based activities focused on reading, writing, math, art, science and physical education.
