The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk funds treatments that are saving the lives of patients today. LLS is making cures happen by providing patient support services, advocating for lifesaving treatments and pioneering the most promising cancer research anywhere. And it's all happening now. Not someday, but today.

Additional Information:

The Light The Night Walk is a staple event that allows us raise funds and provide services (co-pay assistance, financial aid stipends, travel reimbursement, education, etc) to our local patients. There are various ways to assist prior to and the day of the event. You can find more information about upcoming opportunities below.

Day of Volunteer: October 21, 2016 (times vary)

Setup (15 people)

Hours: 11:30am - 3:30pm

  • Prepare site for event.
  • Volunteer duties: unload vans, hang banners, put out table clothes, unload water, and distribute ice and tubs.
  • Help set up booth/table areas (put out T-shirts, unpack boxes, etc.)
  • Set up directional signs before event
  • Prepare lanterns.

Lanterns (6 people)

Hours: 4:30 -7:30 pm

  • Responsible for distributing lanterns to walkers.
  • Assist distributing white lanterns at in Survivor's Area

Food (6 people)

Hours: 4:30 -8:30 pm

  • Help organize the snack area and assist vendors if necessary. Help clean up after walk begins.

Registration (6-8 people)

Hours: 4:30 -7:30 pm

  • Take participant envelopes and money. Give them coupons for prize incentives. Tell walkers about incentives pick-up, food, walk start and bathrooms. Send money to accounting.

Accounting Room (10-12 people)
Hours:4:30- 8:30 pm

  • Count money that is turned in at the Walk
  • Make copies of all checks that are turned in at the Walk
  • Complete necessary documentation

Shirt Distribution (6-8 people)

Hours: 4:30 -8:30 pm

  • Hand out t-shirts to walkers. Clean up area and pack T-shirt back into boxes after walk begins.

Greeters/ Finish Line Cheering (10-12 people)

Hours: 4:30 -7:45pm

  • Welcome participants and direct to registration. Stand in various locations throughout the park and near major parking areas. Welcome signs and clipboards with directions will be given to each group.
  • Stand at start line and cheer on walkers as they begin the walk. While the walkers are in route pull water barrels out and hand out water to walkers as they return to The Classic Center.

Clean-up (10-15 people)

Hours: 7:45 -9:30pm

  • Help break-down and clean-up

Kid's Area (5 people)

Hours: 4:30 - 7:30

  • 2 - Supervise moon walk area
  • 3 - Apply LTN temporary tattoos to walkers

Street Team: Champion for Cures in the community (dates/times vary)

  • The primary objective is to spread awareness for the walk by getting our flyers placed in various businesses/venues around town.
  • Street Team members also assist with various events leading up to the walk that are either designed to raise funds or raise awareness (health fairs, festivals, percentage nights, fundraisers, etc).
  • Street Team members also help us secure new retail partners by reaching out to the shoppes and restuarants they frequent to engage them.
