Program Highlights:
Habitat restoration. The garden is designed to recreate the various habitats of Pickens County and uses many native plants.
Program History:
The HOPE Garden began in 2000 with an EIA Grant from the state of SC. Pickens Elementary students transformed the 9,000 square foot courtyard into a living classroom including a river,pond, butterfly area, xeric area, woodland, meadow, Carolina Fence Garden, many bird houses, and bird feeders..
Volunteer Participation: 120 students and families maintain the garden through weekly meetings after school , and weekly adoption by families during the garden.
Program Information:
This year we will focus on explanding our composting operation to include vermicomposting. We are installing rainbarrels as well.
