Please specify that you would like to be considered as a volunteer teacher in the elementary school. Applicants will be contacted to submit a resume and college transcript once their application has been received. For questions, please email volunteers@olanchoaid.org.
Visa Requirements:
Our Foundation will handle all visa arrangements on behalf of each volunteer.
Program Highlights:
The Olancho Aid Foundation operates a bilingual school system in central Honduras to provide quality, faith-based education in an area with limited opportunities. We seek foreign volunteers to serve as teachers within our schools to expose our students to native English and improve overall language proficiency. By educating our students in both Spanish and English, we provide them with greater opportunities after graduation.
Volunteer teachers in the elementary school work with students from 3rd to 6th grade and can expect to teach one class of students in several different subject areas, such as math, reading, and science. Volunteer teachers in the high school work with students from 7th to 12th grade and can expect to teach one subject to several different levels.
All classes taught by foreign volunteers are given in English, and volunteers are not expected to make accommodations within their lesson plans for the language barrier. Responsibilities of a volunteer teacher include preparing and giving lessons, evaluating student performance, and participating in school-wide activities.
Dates of Service:
Service will begin on August 1st and end on June 20th. Volunteers will have two weeks off for Christmas break and one week off for Holy Week.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
The Olancho Aid Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, faith-based organization that empowers Honduran youth to transform themselves, their communities, and their country through education.
