Located in downtown Council Bluffs, Iowa, our museum was once the old Carnegie Public Library that was the largest Carnegie library in the state of Iowa (This is why the front of the building says “Free Public Library”). Built 1904-1905, it operated as a library until 1998. The museum opened in the building in 2003.
Our mission is to share American History through the lens of the railroad, connecting generations who have been impacted by Union Pacific.
