*Dr. Cates works with students and their families in the development of their individualized educational plan (IEP). He was one of the original authors of the IEP. *Training is also provided to the families and tutors. Dr. Cates provides consultation for the families to implement the IEP.

*FCA has a bookstore that includes the curriculum we recommend. The purchases include support to the families and students.

*The school was founded in 1982. It was started to work with homeschool families and students with special needs or special gifts. Since then, dual enrollment families have been involved as well as those in our online school. 

*Prior to the school opening, Dr. Cates devoted more than 45 years to childhood development, education, and spiritual training. All of his experiences have benefited our school, students, and families. 

*Dr. Cates was the Director of Psycho-Educational Clinic, DePaul University in Chicago. The school's program was part of the Reading and Learning Disabilities Graduate program. It was chosen from more than 2,000 other applicants as a worldwide model program combining reading and learning disabilities for the first time and included a clinic. 

*Dr. Cates was one of the designers of the Mobile Diagnostic Learning Laboratory, a self-powered, motorized, computerized unit, equipped to administer a wide range of tests to determine the nature and extent of learning disabilities. It was operational in seven school districts in Chicago's western suburbs in November 1972. 

*Dr. Cates fought to have homeschooling be legal in the state of Tennessee.

*Testing is done for each student to determine the issues that child is having. 

*Curriculum that works best for the student is provided. 

*Determination is made of how long a student can work on each subject in order to minimize the student's frustration.

Learning Challenged to Gifted...There is a curriculum for every child.

We work with students with a lot of special needs: fetal alcohol syndrome, conduct disorder, autism, Aspergers, ADHD, reading disorders, learning disorders, and anxiety and stress disorder. These issues can interfere with learning. We work with the student and families on them and their education.
